How depression can be treated with Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy - covering the Peterborough area

Listen to a short audio introduction about Hypnotherapy and Depression

Like myself , many other Hypnotherapists / Psychotherapists have used Hypnosis and Hypnotic techniques in the form of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Analytical Hypnotherapy to treat Depression and the symptoms of Depression for many  years.

I have found that many of my clients suffering the effects of Depression have found Hypnotherapy an effective way to control or remove their depressive feelings and state of mind.

So with this in mind , the questions are;

What is Depression ?

Depression is not a single mood or symptom but a combination of moods and effects upon our behaviour and body. They vary from the natural state of feeling a little 'blue' to acute symptoms of despair known as 'clinical depression'.

When anyone feels down which is a normal passing state they can have a sense of what clinical depression is like and how it affects a person. Even when feeling a little low we find ourselves feeling 'out of salts' low in energy and enthusiasm. We may well find ourselves with no appetite or the reverse comfort eating and putting on extra weight which in turn makes us feel bad about our self. We find ourselves experiencing low self esteem, feeling worthless or guilty. it becomes hard to concentrate and we often feel tearful and down.

What causes Depression - An explanation of the causes of Depression

Depression is often triggered by something happening within our lives. It might be a death of a loved one , a relationship break down or problems. Money worries, accidental injury or a physical illness. These situations and many more produce stress which aggravates symptoms producing anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety or phobia ( a need to isolate oneself from the outside world) and generalised anxiety disorder.

N.B .At least one person in every six becomes depressed in the course of their lives. One in 20 is clinically depressed. Figures suggest that more women become depressed, but men may find it harder to admit to or talk about.

Why is Hypnotherapy such a good idea in the treatment of Depression ?

Using Hypno-Analysis the root cause of the strong emotional cause of your depression can be found and resolved / understood.

Hypno-Analysis allows emotional understanding of the problem

Allows Cognitive restructuring (an understanding of the thought processes which lead to symptoms and unwanted behaviours)

Behavioural changes are encouraged when empty cycles of behaviour  are removed

Hypno-Analysis allows the mind to heal and become strong again , removing the symptoms of depression which make life very difficult at times

More information on the different types of Depression which can be treated with Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy in the treatment of Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
If you usually become depressed only during the autumn and winter, it is often considered that you are suffering from SAD and need a sun box to lift your depression. Many clients have no need of such light therapy once they have removed the internal anxiety which produced the depression or SAD after analytical therapy.

Hypnotherapy in the treatment of Postnatal depression
Many mothers have ‘the baby blues’ soon after the birth of their baby, but it usually passes after a few days. Postnatal depression is a more serious problem and can appear any time between two weeks and two years after the birth.

Hypnotherapy to treat Bipolar disorder (manic depression) ?

Bi Polar or Manic Depression can in some cases be unsuitable for treatment using Hypnotherapy and must be discussed at length to find the correct form of therapy for this disorder.
